“Good” Carbohydrate?“Bad” Carbohydrate?

Health Corner

“Sugar” describe as [empty calories] it only provide energy sweet taste but no nutritional value. However inulin describe as [carbohydrate] it provides variety of important nutrients not necessarily giving sweet taste for example rice or noodles. Carbohydrate is consider as fuel to supply energy for our body. Our brain body organ and metabolism operation are required carbohydrate glucose as an energy source.

Carbohydrate differentiate into [Simple] and [Complex]?

Simple CarbohydrateComplex Carbohydrate
Include monosaccharides (glucose galactose fructose) and disaccharides (sucrose lactose maltose)Including fructooligosaccharides (FOS) polysaccharides (starch pectin cellulose etc.) dietary fiber
Easy to be digest & absorb by body cause blood sugar concentration rise & fall rapidly provide feeling of hungry often lead to over consumption.Take time to be digest able to maintain blood sugar in stable condition prolong  satiety.
For example: refined sugar fruits milk refined white rice white bread etc. 。For example: whole grains tuber beans vegetables etc.

There are “Good” & “Bad” carbohydrate? How to differentiate them?

Bad carbohydrate —- “sugar” such as refined or white sugar added into beverages or dessert it only provide high calories and no nutritional value. Good carbohydrate —- sugar that present in food provide fewer or no calories but high in important nutritional value.

What is [Inulin]?

Inulin also known as chicory root fiber extracted from Jerusalem artichoke plant. It has the same characteristic of sweetness such as sugar which is about 200-250 times sweeter than sucrose but provides lower calories. Thus inulin often being used in making of ice-cream or nutritional supplement it provides a natural sweet taste.

Is [Inulin] suitable for diabetics consumption?

Inulin is a natural polysaccharide also known as soluble dietary fiber. It is also classified as a probiotic which cannot be completely being digested. Soluble dietary fiber helps in digestion and slowing the absorption of sugar and flour. Since inulin does not completely being digested after entering the bloodstream it will not bind to proteins and affect insulin secretion and raise the blood sugar. Thus it allow to maintain the blood sugar level and it is a excellent source of sugar for diabetes patients!

What is the benefits of [Inulin]?

1. Lower blood lipid and stabilize blood glucose

Inulin able to lower thetotal serum cholesterol(TC) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) increase high-density lipoprotein/ low-density lipoprotein ratio (HDL:LDL). Inulin will undergoes fermentation in the colon result in short-chain fatty acids (acetate and propionate) which used as fuel in the blood and inhibit cholesterol synthesis improve vascular disorders. These short-chain fatty acids can also help to lower the blood sugar level and reduce diabetes symptoms such as thirst fatigue itchy skin etc.

2. Improve the absorption of minerals

The short-chain fatty acids produced by inulin during fermentation in the colon will  stimulate the growth of colon mucosal cells increase the absorption area and promote mineral absorption such as calcium magnesium zinc etc.

3. Weight loss effect

As inulin increases the absorption of vitamins and other minerals our body will become healthier and more energetic metabolism also will boost up and achieving slimming effect. In addition inulin helps to reduce blood sugar level result in less insulin being secreted by the body glucose does not store in cells thus it will not cause fat accumulation in the body. At the same time with the healthy diet and exercise to achieve the best effect of slimming!

4. Improve intestinal health prevent constipation prevent colon cancer reduce eczema

In the intestines saprophytic bacteria and digested foods wil produce toxic metabolites (such as ammonia nitrosamines phenol and cresol secondary bile acids etc.) if these toxic products stay in the intestines for a long time will cause intestinal cancer. Hence inulin will not be hydrolyzed and digested by gastric acid only act as a food that is beneficial for good bacteria in the intestines. Therefore inulin helps to promotes the growth of good bacteria in the colon enhance intestinal peristalsis and digestive function to prevent constipation. At the same time the short-chain fatty acids produced by inulin during fermentation able to inhibit the production of toxic substances increase the frequency of defecation and accelerate the excretion of toxic metabolites and effectively prevent colon cancer. As the colon health improve the eczema condition also will be improved.

5. Enhance metabolism skin beauty

Inulin helps to enhance body metabolism boost up the recovery of scar of ance. Inulin also improve the skin pigmentation it has the effect of beautifying and whitening the skin cause the skin become more delicate and smooth!
