Floaters also known as vitreous opacity or vitreous degeneration are a conscious symptom. Floaters are caused by the gradual degeneration and shrinkage of the vitreous body (human eyeball tissue) the little fiber will break away & become stringy these stringy disrupt the light coming into the retina which causes the floaters visible.

According to statistics 90% of floaters are caused by aging of eye (middle-aged and elderly people over 40). However as time advanced network technology the use of 3C products and the myopia group has gradually increased and the young age group (30 years old below) which shows that the speed of aging of young people’s eyes has gradually accelerated!

People at high risk of developing floaters:

– Elderly (aged 40 above)

– People with myopia especially those with high myopia

– Patients after cataract surgery

– Long-term of using 3C products: handphone computer etc . which causes eye strain

If the above situation occurs you must seek medical treatment immediately because severe floaters can cause vitreous hemorrhage retinal tears retinal detachment etc. and even blindness. At the same time people with floaters will found out the disturbance on their eyesight & life. For long-term it can cause anxiety irritability bad mood and may also lead to depression.

Nowadays due to the Covid-19 outbreak people mostly has lesser outdoor activities and stay at home using mobile phones or computers to shop online checking news entertainment etc. As a result the number and time usage of 3C products has increased and lead to increasing in the risk of developing of floaters.
